Vitamin D and C, along with the minerals zinc and selenium, contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system. Vitamin D and zinc also support the maintenance of normal bones, skin, and muscle function. Selenium and zinc help maintain healthy and normal hair and nails. Vitamin C contributes to the normal production of collagen, which is essential for the function of bones, cartilage, gums, skin, and teeth.

Although vitamin D has traditionally been used in clinical practice mainly for infants and the elderly, recent research shows the need for vitamin D supplementation across all age groups during months of limited sun exposure. This helps prevent chronic vitamin D deficiency, which affects over 40% of the population.
